Our brief was to create a unique stamp and associated products, using an appropriate portrait of The Queen. Our research into the period when the young princess was in accession to the throne revealed unique portraits encapsulating the style and elegence of the period.
We used classic typography, regal flourishes and intricate embroidery detail from The Queen’s Coronation gown to embellish the portrait, using a range of unique printing processes for a stamp issue.

Creating the stamp
Using a series of portraits of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II taken by Dorothy Wilding in 1952, the year of Her Majesty’s accession. The Queen can be seen wearing the George IV State Diadem which she also wore to her Coronation in 1953.
The printed stamp
The stamp has been printed with several special ink processes to reflect the prestigious nature of the occasion: platinum suprametal, silver hot foil, spot gloss UV varnish and iridescent ink.
First day cover and stamp marks
The individual printed techniques extended across our supporting design for the First day Cover.
Presentation pack
The design for the presentation pack used a contrasting image from Dorothy Wilding’s original photographs.
